Bike Ride - Sunday 4th June

Our ride this Sunday is very straightforward. We are heading down the Basingstoke Canal and back.

The ride will start at 10:00am outside the Hand & Spear pub near Weybridge Station, and will be about 30 miles.

Starting from Weybridge, we will cut through Brooklands and join the Basingstoke Canal at its very beginning. It's then towpath all the way to the Basingstoke Canal Centre in Mytchett where there's a lovely cafe that we will have lunch at. The return route is just the reverse although there is the option for the more adventurous to take the short-cut over Tunnel Hill ;)

Total distance about 30 miles. The full route is described here: https://www.strava.com/routes/8966831

The route is off-road, the towpath is very good going in most places but a bit rough with puddles in one or two spots. A mountain bike or hybrid would be the best choice of bike for this ride.

If you want to come on the ride, you can just turn up.

Our next ride will be on Sunday 9th July and will be an all day ride so we will be starting a little earlier.

Bollox to Brexit

Bike Ride - Sunday 7th May

This Sunday we are going to Box Hill.

The ride will start at 10:00am outside the Hand & Spear pub near Weybridge Station, and will be about 25 miles.

Starting from Weybridge, we will head south down Redhill Road, crossing the A3 into Pointer Lane. From there we go through Downside to Bookham via the common. Then past Polesden Lacey and down the hill into Westhumble. Then up and down Box Hill before lunch at The Stepping Stones in Westhumble. Box Hill is actually quite an easy climb but for those that really don't want to do it there is the option to skip it and stop early for lunch at Westhumble.

The return will be via Leatherhead and Cobham.

Total distance about 25 miles. The full route is described here: https://www.strava.com/routes/8572192

The route is completely on-road, apart from a short gravel track through Bookham Common, so any bike will be suitable.

If you want to come on the ride, you can just turn up.

Our next ride will be on Sunday 4th June. This is the first Sunday in June so once again this is an exception to the Second Sunday rule.

Easter Sunday Egg Hunt - 16th April 2017

This weekend is our annual Easter Sunday Egg Hunt (SWIDT).

Starting from the Hand & Spear at Weybridge Station at 10am on Sunday our Egg Hunt will take you on a tour of the area looking for eggs. In teams of two or three cyclists, and using a map and a clue sheet you will have 2 hours to find as many answers as possible.

You can ride in a team of two or three. Don't worry if you don't already have a buddy to ride with, you can be paired up with someone suitable at the start. There will be no fixed route, but expect to cycle around 20 miles or so.

The start will be at the usual place, outside the Hand and Spear pub near Weybridge Station at 10am. You will finish back at the same place by about noon. There may well be prizes for a good performance.

If you want to come, just turn up.

The next ride after this will be on Sunday 7th May at 10am. Note, this is the first Sunday in May not our usual second Sunday of the month.

Bike Ride - Sunday 12th February 2017

From there we go through Martyr's Green to Effingham and then a long uphill drag onto Ranmore Common. After that its downhill all the way to Westhumble, where we will stop for lunch at The Stepping Stones pub (or maybe Denbies). The return route will be through Leatherhead, Fetcham, Cobham back to Weybridge.

Total distance about 25 miles. The full route is described here: https://www.strava.com/routes/7602378

The route is completely on-road any bike would be suitable. It is more hilly than our usual routes but that should help to keep you warm in this cold weather.

If you want to come on the ride, you can just turn up.

Our next ride will be on Sunday 16th April. There will be no ride in March. Our April ride will be on the third Sunday of the month, not the usual second Sunday. Since that will be Easter Sunday It will also be the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
